‘Jelena Karađorđević – Mother of the Last Romanov in the Russian Empire’ online exhibition will be presented today, 26 March, on Facebook Page of the Rumenka Cultural Station as well as on website of cultural stations at 5 p.m.
Through the prism of the life of Princess Jelena Karađorđević, the exhibition will present the history of the Russian and Serbian people in the period of turn of centuries (1885 – 1918) marked by great historical upheavals – Balkan Wars, World War I, February and October Revolution and the tragic suffering of the Romanov royal family, which changed Jelena’s life irrevocably, and made her a princess without a homeland and family.
The life of this significant woman was accompanied by great tragedies, and the Serbian princess was unjustly neglected by historical sources, which have been available to us so far. However, this exhibition shows how important Jelena is in the history not only of Serbia, but also of Russia and in relation to those two nations.
The exhibition will be implemented on the occasion of the centenary of the tragic suffering of the Romanov royal family, in cooperation with the Russian Academy of Sciences (Department of History), the Russian Aviation Institute and the Association for the Preservation of Historical Heritage ‘Magistra’.
